Watson’s films have application in the following delivery systems:

• Quick Dissolve for Portal Delivery
• Transmucosal Delivery for systemic delivery
• Local Delivery for site specific treatments
• Other Specialty films for the pharmaceutical market

Portal Delivery Applications:

Watson’s Ingestible films can also be used for portal delivery applications. Watson can formulate films that are quick dissolving or slow dissolving. The active ingredients are locked in the film matrix which dissolves on the tongue and is then swallowed. No water is required, as with pills and capsules, making this dosage form convenient for the consumer.

Films for Transmucosal Delivery Applications:

Watson’s Trans-Mucosal Controlled Release Delivery System can be used in three main applications for delivery of drugs and nutrients via the mucosal membranes and dermal tissues:

• Buccal Delivery: Administration via the interior lining of the cheek (Buccal Mucosa) to systemic circulation.
• Sublingual Delivery: Administration via the membrane of the ventral surface of the tongue and the floor of the mouth (Sublingual Mucosa) to systemic circulation.
• Ophthalmic Drug Delivery Systems:Ocular drug delivery via membrane transport processes in the eye for systemic drug administration; ocular iontophoresis, mucoadhesive polymers for ophthalmic drug delivery; delivery of macromolecular therapeutic agents; ocular delivery and therapeutics of peptides and proteins, therapeutic approaches for degenerative diseases of the retina
• Nasal Membrane: The nasal route of administration for systemic delivery of drugs via mucosal absorption. Nasal mucoadhesive film technology offers a great promise for the successful delivery of a variety of pharmaceutical agents including proteins, peptides, vaccines and genomics.
• Vaginal: Delivery through the vaginal mucosa for actives such as hormonal treatments.

Films For Local Delivery: For targeted on-site (localized) delivery of actives.

• Oral Conditions: For the treatment of conditions of the oral cavity, such as periodontal disease, aphthous ulcers and oral fungal conditions.
• Dermal conditions: Eczema, athletes foot, warts
• Women’s Health: Delivery of actives for vaginal delivery in treatment of women’s health issues.
• Cosmetic: Applications such as teeth whitening, skin treatments and beauty treatment face masks with actives.
• Wound care: Active ingredients to promote healing and prevent scarring can be incorporated directly into the film. Watson's film will adhere readily to lightly moistened skin. The film is gas permeable, for better healing
• Rectal: treatment of hemorrhoids or other conditions of the rectal tissues
