100% PURE MAGIC
These little flakes are like magic. They can do anything from adding
color in ways that have never been possible before in baked goods, to
creating a swirl of “snow” in a carbonated beverage. Now,
even flavors and sweeteners can be added to Edible Glitter, which opens
up a whole new world of opportunities and applications for this product.
Thickness
The standard glitter product is approx. 2 mil thick. Watson
also manufactures 2X Glitter which is twice as thick as the standard
product. The thicker flake is more opaque and dissolves at
a slower rate than the thinner flake.
Solubility
In most applications “soluble” Edible Glitter made from gum
arabic is the preferred choice, and it can be used on baked, fried, and
frosted products; however, some applications require a glitter product
with a slower solubility rate. Watson manufactures Edible Glitter
with various solubility rates that are ideal for use in high active water
systems. Furthermore, an insoluble product is available using
sodium alginate, which is stable in a water environment for a prolonged
period of time.
Color
Watson manufactures a full spectrum of colored glitter products using
FD&C, EU and Natural colorants. Watson can also match a custom
color using a Pantone system of color matching. Watson produces
custom blends of colored glitter using up to five different colors.
Glitter can be used to add Color
Color is the first thing that often attracts us to a food. The way it looks on a package can often influence our product choices. This is especially true when it comes to children. Glitter appeals to children, who market studies have shown are growing in buying influence.
To name a few applications, colored Glitter can be used to decorate baked goods and can be sprinkled over ice cream, mixed into yogurt, gelatins and pudding products.
Carnival Glitter will give a rainbow appearance to any product making it irresistible to any child.
Glitter can be used to add Color and Sweetness
Color and a non-nutritive sweetener such as sucrolose can be added to glitter. Acesulfame K, Splenda, and Nutrasweet can also be used. Glitter with sweetness can replace sugar topping in sugar free or low carbohydrate products.
Sugar Free Product and Low Carbohydrate Products: these difficult to formulate products often leave food technologists little room for decorative sprinkles to make products more attractive. Edible glitter is sugar free, carbohydrate free and adds no calories to your product. You can add color and sweetness without impacting the nutritional panel.
Glitter can be used to add color and Flavor
Watson can formulate Edible Glitter using a custom flavor or a proprietary
flavor supplied by the customer. We also have a range of flavors
available as standard products. For example: cheddar flavor, jalapeno
flavor, chicken flavor, strawberry, raspberry, mint, butterscotch, sour
green apple and mouth puckering lemon ... just to name a few.
Glitter with flavor contributes some special qualities to the flavor profile of your product. Thin flakes made with gum arabic melt quickly on your tongue. This gives you “instant flavor impact.” This flavor comes out much faster than a standard flavor.
The quick releasing flavor of glitter, coupled with a slower releasing flavor can give the effect of “flavor change”. For example, if you made a banana flavored gumdrop with strawberry glitter on it, the first flavor impact would be the strawberry, followed by strawberry/banana and finally just banana. Try this with chocolate/cherry, cinnamon/apple, pineapple/coconut ... and any other flavor combinations you dream up.
Create peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with a whole new dimension by sprinkling Strawberry Glitter onto peanut butter crackers. Raspberry Glitter is also available.
Sprinkle Jalapeno Glitter onto the surface of a cracker, and you will get instant jalapeno flavor followed by the flavor of the cracker, which can also be flavored with additional jalapeno. This allows the consumer to get a prolonged burst of flavor. Try this with Cheddar Glitter on snack chips, which gives a BIG cheddar flavor.
Sugar free products can have enhanced color, flavor and sweetness by sprinkling a little glitter onto the surface without adding sugar to the product. This can be any diabetics’ dream come true.
