Christmas Charity Choice 2016

The Christmas holiday season was another opportunity for us to let our customers vote on how we should divide a $2,000 donation.  In the past Watson would, like most companies, send out Christmas cards to all of our customers.  We decided that the money would be better spent helping those in need, so now, instead of using that money on cards and postage, we send out an e-mail to our customers and let them decide how much each of three charities should get.

For Christmas 2016, we selected the following charities:

Feed My Starving Children

Watson is proud to be a Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) partner. Watson contributes over $20,000 annually to this worthwhile cause. The vision and mission of FMSC complements our company mission to improve human health, nutrition, and happiness throughout the world. Watson is also a sponsor of the annual FMSC partnership conference.

Vitamin Angels

The mission of Vitamin Angels is to mobilize and deploy private sector resources to advance availability, access, and use of micronutrients. Vitamin Angels reduces child mortality worldwide by connecting essential micronutrients, especially vitamin A, with infants and children under five. Essential micronutrients enable young immune systems to fight infectious diseases, helping children attain good health and the opportunity to lead meaningful and productive lives.

The Rescue Express

The Rescue Express is a foster-based cat and dog rescue, headquartered in Media, Pennsylvania. Through their amazing network of volunteers and foster families, they rescue dogs and cats from overcrowded shelters, where they are likely to be euthanized, and place them in loving forever homes.

The Christmas Charity ’16 votes were tallied, and the following donations were made:

  • Feed My Starving Children = 52.17% = $1,043.48
  • Rescue Express = 30.43% = $608.73
  • Vitamin Angels = 17.39% = $347.83

Since Watson manufactures ingredients for foods, dietary supplements, and pet foods, we try to select charities that are active involved in human health through nutrition, as well as companion animal welfare.  We again received a lot of wonderful feedback from our customers, expressing their appreciation that we were making donations to such a great group of charities.  It is a very rewarding feeling and we feel it makes a much broader and more-lasting impact, than any simple holiday greeting card could ever accomplish.
