One of Watson’s significant donees is Columbus House. Columbus House’s mission is to serve people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless by providing shelter and housing and by fostering their personal growth and independence.
A few of Columbus House’s programs are
- outreach and engagement
- shelter services
- housing services
- veterans services
- income and employment
- housing security
Columbus house relies on government grants as well as contributions from the private sector, including individuals, foundations, and businesses like Watson. We at Watson try to alleviate the strain and bring as much comfort as possible to the guests transitioning through Columbus House, and it’s affiliated Middlesex Family Shelter and the Wallingford Emergency Shelter. August 9th and 10th, 2017 Watson held a packing event where we put together 15 welcome kits! Welcome Kits include towels, washcloths, a shower curtain, a trashcan, a bathmat and toiletries (toiletries include but are not limited to; soap, shaving crème, shampoo, body wash, and hand sanitizer).
Watson matched the Welcome Kits with 24 small household appliances. These appliances would be Hamilton Beach products like coffee pots, toasters, crockpots, toaster ovens, and blenders. August 8th we visited to drop off the kits. If you would like to see how you can help too visit http://www.columbushouse.org, We couldn’t do this without the help of excellent companies like Kohls who allows us to buy in bulk without restriction to make people’s lives a little better.
