Chitosan

Overview

Chitosan is from chitin, a carbohydrate in shellfish.  Its makeup is chemically similar to cellulose, plant fiber.


Function

Chitosan binds to fat in the digestive system and prohibits its absorption.  It can lower cholesterol and has been known to help in weight loss.

Recommended Intake

Supplements are available in a variety of dosages.  Some may be sold in 500 milligram pills or 1000 milligram pills.
