West Haven, CT – Watson, Inc. recently donated 25 small appliances to Columbus House, to be included in their Welcome Kit initiative, which provides basic household necessities to those moving out of homelessness and into permanent homes.
From bath towels and bed linens to dishes and cleaning supplies, these Welcome Kits offer a fresh start for the women, men, families with children, Veterans, and seniors with limited incomes that Columbus House serves each year.
Working with those who are experiencing or at-risk of experiencing homelessness, Columbus House provides shelter, housing, and an array of robust programs that foster their independence and help them remain housed. These Welcome Kits are offered to those transitioning into permanent housing; Columbus House Case Managers use a person-centered philosophy with each client to secure items based on their individual needs.
Full Welcome Kits are valued at $250 and consist of a Cleaning Kit, Bathroom Kit, Bedroom Kit, and Kitchen Kit. Columbus House relies on the generosity of thoughtful supporters who donate funds, gift cards, and kit items listed on Columbus House’s website.
“Watson Inc. is a devoted partner to Columbus House and our mission to end homelessness. This is the second time they have generously donated small appliances to our Welcome Kit initiative, and they continuously make a positive impact on the clients we serve. For years, they have assisted our vulnerable neighbors in a variety of ways. They’vesuppliedholiday gifts to over 100 people staying at our New Haven shelter and sent cases of water we distribute to those still living on the street. They’ve also provided funds to revitalize apartments for 14 of our Veterans at Harkness House and ordered pizza for our guests during storms. The employees of Watson are a caring and thoughtful group, and we are grateful for their ongoing support,” said Catherine DiTuri, Director of Development for Columbus House.
“Supporting our communities is one of our Watson values. Social responsibility is at the core of our corporate culture. Today, social responsibility is more important than ever. Employees are more engaged when they know their company is making a difference in their community, and customers want to do business with companies that have strong social-responsibility policies. We hope to encourage other companies to think of fun and creative ways to support charities in their communities.” stated Moira Watson, Vice President of Marketing and Communications at Watson.
