West Haven CT– Consumers will be looking for foods and supplements to help bridge nutritional gaps for these key nutrients. This demand will only grow as agencies such as the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP), the USDA, industry groups, and dietitians increase public awareness of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and shortfall nutrients.
‘Nutrients of concern are nutrients that are typically either over-consumed or under-consumed, based on the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA), which provides either the minimum level or the maximum level of consumption required to prevent detrimental effects on health.
The most recent Dietary Guidelines for Americans added five important nutrients to the list of nutrients of concern due to under-consumption. These include calcium, potassium, iron, dietary fiber, and vitamin D. All are considered “shortfall nutrients” because the average American doesn’t get enough to stave off negative health consequences, or a particular segment of the population (such as women or children) tend to be deficient.
The webinar presenter is Alice Wilkinson, one of the foremost industry-recognized experts in the field of nutritional formulation. Topics that Wilkinson will cover in the upcoming webinar include:
- Dietary Guidelines for Americans
- RDAs vs. DVs
- What is a Nutrient of Concern
- Overview of each nutrient of concern, including RDA and DV tables
