Thanksgiving Charity Choice 2016

In 2015, we began a new tradition here at Watson. We stopped buying the traditional printed Thanksgiving cards that we had in the past mailed out every year to our customers. Instead, we decided to try something new. We decided to instead donate the $2,000 we would normally spend on cards and postage, and let our customers vote on how the money should be divided among charities.

We continued this new tradition for Thanksgiving 2016. We sent an e-mail out to customers, directing them to a landing page on our website listing three of the charities which we have been actively supporting on a regular basis. For 2016, we choose Feeding America, GAIN, and the PuppyUp/2Million Dogs Foundation.

Feeding America

Feeding America is near and dear to our hearts since we are part of the food industry. Improving human health and well-being through nutrition is part of our mission. We actively support our local food pantries all year long, and our Connecticut Food Bank is a member of the Feeding America network.

The Feeding America network is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. This nationwide network of food banks secures and distributes 4 billion meals each year through food pantries and meal programs throughout the United States, and leads the nation engaging in the fight against hunger. GAIN Logo

GAIN is another Charity that Watson has been active with for some time. The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is an international organization that was launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Watson is proud to participate in the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition Program, as an approved supplier to the GAIN Premix Facility, which supports large-scale food fortification projects. You can learn more about GAIN here: http://www.gainhealth.org/

PuppyUp / 2 Million Dogs – The PuppyUp Foundation is committed to discovering the common links between canine and human cancers, and the causes of these cancers through comparative oncology research.

Watson has had a team participating in the Connecticut PuppyUp Walk for the past 3 years. Our team photo, above, shows what a great time we all had, and this year our team raised over $5,500 for this charity. Watson not only makes ingredients for foods and beverages; we also make ingredients for pet foods. We’ve always felt that it is important to support charities that benefit all members of the family.

The 2016 Thanksgiving Votes were tallied, and here’s how we donated:

  • $1,384.62 to Feeding America.
  • $351.65 to o PuppyUp/2 Million Dogs
  • $263.74 to GAIN

On top of the great feeling we get by making these donations, we also got back many wonderful, supportive comments from our customers, who were so happy to see these donations being made, and appreciated being included in the process.

We feel that making donations on behalf of our customers is a wonderful way to thank them for their business and friendship. We also feel this is a wonderful way to support some great charities and to increase awareness about their missions.

Supporting our communities is important to us. It is part of “the Watson Way”, integral to our culture and a vital part of our higher purpose. It makes us feel great to be able to help, and we hope we will inspire other companies to think of creative ways to support charities in their own communities as well.
